Artist's Statement

My oil paintings portray nature in a realistic manner to share with the viewer the special sense of place, beauty or unique circumstance that first attracted me to create the image. My compositions emphasize the dramatic contrasts between sun and shadow and the  sculptural shapes and vibrant colors of the plants, animals and landscape. I enjoy presenting the plants and animals in a close-up format that celebrates the beauty of these subjects which are sometimes quite small. I like painting the contrast of delicate, almost translucent cactus flowers growing among the many spines, and compositions that feature animals and plants together.

Most of my works are painted in my studio with oils, but I am never without my camera and  find inspiration and references for future paintings almost everywhere and every day. When I see something that makes me think "Wow - look at that", my next thought is "How can I translate that special something into a painting to share with others?"

Thank you for taking time to look at my paintings. You may email me on the Contact the Artist page, and please be sure to include your email address if you would like me to respond.
