Hebe Brooks

Artist’s Biographical Statement

Regardless of the level attained, the creative spirit of an artist can never stop learning. Artist Hebe Brooks is no exception to this rule. Her love for art has been present since her childhood and throughout her adult life.

Hebe began traveling at an early age and worked in different parts of the world visiting art museums and archaeological sites from Europe to the Far East and all through the Americas. Learning other languages allowed her to imbue in the cultures where she lived and to share ideas and traditions. A college degree in Fine Arts-Studio Painting and Art History led to the consolidation of her devotion to art.

Today Hebe’s work has several signature elements. One of these is her use of reflections, whether they are gracing a gleaming silver teapot in a still-life painting or a crystal clear lake in a landscape. Hebe says her mission in depicting reflections is to engage viewers and cause them to question where the real object starts, where it ends, and what part of it is actually a reflection of something else. Another common element is her use of fabric twisting and turning its way through the artwork. Whether reflections or fabric, it is the passion for detail and perfection that sets her work apart. It is also this passion that has led to multiple awards and acceptances into esteemed national and international juried exhibitions. Within the last years, her paintings have received numerous awards. Recent ones are Best of Show at the Annual Richardson Exhibit, several Best Still Life Awards such as at the American Women Artists Exhibit Spring 2017, NOAPS Best of America Exhibit 2016 and 2014, and the International Guild of Realism 2015 in Charleston, SC. She has received various First, Second and Third Place Awards including First Place Texas & Neighbors Exhibitions 2016, 2014 and 2013; Second Place Richeson75 Landscape Exhibit 2016, and Third Place Call of the Wild Exhibit Spring 2017; multiple honorable mentions and three times Finalist Recognitions at the International Artist Magazine Competitions. One of her paintings was selected as part of the exclusive 2015/2016 Touring Exhibition of the Masterworks from the International Guild of Realism. A list of exhibitions and awards is available in her website.

Most afternoons, one can find Hebe painting in her studio; however, her involvement with art extends beyond the studio walls. She is a current member of several artists’ associations including The Oil Painters of America Organization, Master Artist of the National Oil and Acrylic Painters’ Society, the American Women Artists Organization, the International Guild of Realism, and a Signature Artist of the National Society of Artists. Volunteering for art related activities to increase art awareness is also one of Hebe’s priorities. She is a past President for The National Oil & Acrylic Painters’ Society, a docent at the Museum of Fine Art Houston, and the judge for recent art exhibitions. Total immersion in the art world is a concept she likes to pursue.

Art writers have recognized Hebe’s work in local newspapers and national art publications. Her paintings have been published in catalogs and art books. Articles about her art include: “Hebe Brooks-Finding Interest through Surfaces”, an eight-page article published in the International Artist Magazine October/November 2015; “Artists to Watch” published in Southwest Art Magazine January 2015 and an article with her painting in the American Art Collector Magazine.

The dedication to art is palpable in Hebe’s paintings. Her work has received the admiration of art patrons and it is part of private and public collections. She seeks the creative spirit and artistic knowledge at every step in her daily life.
